Jerry and I grew up together in Phillipsburg and went to the elementary there.  We were patrol boys at the one an only crosswalk to school. We had some deep discussions and shared a lot of thoughts. We were 5th and 6th grade boys, so,you can imagine where some of the discussion went. 😜 We’d run to Jerry’s house to play after school. Most times Mother Carolyn was there and you felt an expectation that you better be good, and we were. (Only “sometimes “ picking on Jo Lynn) Jerry’s Dad ,Howard, volunteered his time to teach a bunch of rugrats some football basics to get us ready for junior high. Jerry, Randy and Greg Scharrer, and Mike Smoot were pretty good. We stayed pretty good friends in high school, but like many of us we parted some after school and college. Jerry and I got back together when my little brother, Jeff, married his little sister, Jo Lynn and we became an extended family.  It was always good to see Jerry and Gayle at family get together. We connected a great deal when I joined the Ohio Education Association leadership and my local. Jerry was our attorney and he was very good at what he did for us. Jerry always had your back going all the way back to Phillipsburg.  There are lots of stories, and some are real gems. I guess it’s the stories and memories that in the end makes a life. Jerry Spicer was a good friend.

Addendum:  it has been a year since Jerry passed.  On Wednesday January 31, 2018 his mother Carolyn passed away.  Mrs. Spicer was a very special person. At the funeral family and friends expressed how dear she was to us all.  When our families merged she enveloped us all with her special love and touch. There were no in laws, just family.  When we’d visit here and at the lake we were welcomed and at home. Carolyn’s example of love, yes Christ’s love, was an example for all of us. We will miss you.
